ARTS IN THE CEMETERIES WALK IN COLES COUNTY, ILLINOIS

The Coles County Arts Council and the Academy of Lifelong Learning are partnering for an ARTS IN THE CEMETERY WALK on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Tickets are $10 for adults. Children under 16 are free. Tickets may be purchased by calling the EIU Academy of Lifelong Learning at 217-581-5114.

The program will start at 10:15 at the Charleston Carnegie Library, 712 Sixth Street, Charleston, IL  (Rotary Room – First Door on the right.) The Coles County Historical Society, Coles County Genealogical Society, VFW Honor Guard, Boy Scouts, and Volunteers from EIU are assisting.

The day will begin with Kevin and Paul Baumann, brothers, giving a presentation on Tombstone Art. They are currently in the process of writing a book on the subject and have traveled internationally for research. Kevin and Paul are also familiar with our local cemeteries and attendees will discover many interesting elements concerning the cemeteries in Coles County.

Lunch will be on your own either box lunch picnic, local restaurants, or home if you live close.

In the afternoon we will tour Roselawn-Mound and Old City Cemetery with Paul and Kevin as guides. One just might hear bagpipes in the background and see a re-enactment of a moment in the life of a pioneer who lived long ago.

In case of rain, we will meet back in the library (after lunch on your own) for afternoon stories of art in the lives of those who lived here in Coles County long ago.
