Promoting the Arts in Coles County Since 1984

Pop Up Photo Show:

Birds, Butterflies and Blooms 2020

2020 has been a tough year for all of us and for the arts. Earlier this spring, forced to cancel one event after another due to Covid 19, the Coles County Arts Council was looking for a safe way to share some joy and decided to try something different. A pop up show brings art to a place where people are not expecting to encounter it. A local amateur photography show invites us to see striking images created from the backgrounds of our lives. Combining the two seemed like a great way to bring some much needed delightful surprise to a challenging year. We hope Birds, Butterflies and Blooms will leave you feeling inspired to celebrate this beautiful and interesting place we call home.

CCAC would like to thank the 17 photographers, of varying ages and experience levels, who shared over 80 gorgeous images with us. We would also like to thank First Federal Savings and Loan whose generous donation enabled us to buy the display equipment we needed for this new venture.

Like what you see? Let us know on our CCAC Facebook page.  Wish you could buy a copy of one of these prints? Contact CCAC’s president through this website and we’ll help you get in touch with the photographer.

 October 10 - Lake Charleston Trailhead, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

CELEBRATING 200 YEARS

GASLIGHT ART COLONY BICENTENNIAL SHOW

As you probably know, Clark County, Illinois is celebrating 200 years as a county in 2019! The Gaslight Art Colony in Marshall will celebrate 10 years! As part of their anniversary year, the Gaslight Art Colony is working with the Bicentennial Committee to showcase art work that highlights the Past, Present and Future of Clark County.

Falling on the Fall Festival weekend this year, there will be the opportunity for many to visit the Colony. All member work will be showcased beginning September 21 with an Opening at the Gaslight Art Colony, and will be on display until mid-October.

Colony members are encouraged to enter, up to three items, that reflect the past, present or future of Clark County. (Other items will not be excluded from this show). Art work could include anything from the Darwin Ferry to the oilfields near Casey, from the “Big Things” to the Clark County Courthouse to main street Martinsville.

The Gaslight Art Colony has been hosting two members show a year for the past 10 years. Their diversity of talent and art mediums is always impressive and this year will be no exception! You will not want to miss this show! For more information or to enter, contact the Gaslight Art Colony at gaslightartcolony@gmail.com or 217-293-1050.
