4th of July Chalk-In – held Monday, July 4, 2011 9:30 - Noon at Morton Park during Red, White and Blue Days, Charleston. Adults and children of all ages participate in chalk drawings on the sidewalk. Artist Day in the Garden - July 9, 2011  A get-together for local and area artists who enjoy drawing, painting, photography and music, along with nature lovers. The event takes place at Wes Whiteside’s beautiful gardens east of Charleston. The event is open to the public and is a mini-fundraiser for the Coles County Arts Council.  Dramatic Arts

Embarras Valley Film Festival This festival is sponsored by EIU’s College of Arts & Humanities with CCAC as a co-sponsor for some film activities. Usually in November , this is a week-long festival of film screenings and discussions. The festival includes activities for area youth such as a stop-motion animation workshop for middle and high school age kids and a workshop and story hour for younger children. It honors a person or theme relevant to the Embarras Valley and concludes with a reception featuring food vendors, musical entertainment and student films. Fiber Arts

Fiber Friends meet one Saturday a month to explore and learn a variety of fiber arts approaches. Workshop participants like to work with fibers and to learn a variety of related creative approaches. Workshops are taught by volunteer teachers, professional artists or group members.   The group meets at Otterbein Methodist Church, Charleston from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reasonable fee is collected for each workshop with the Coles County Arts Council underwriting some of the workshops. The 2011 and 2012 schedule will be adjusted and rescheduled due to severe weather or presenter cancelation.  Check home page of the CCAC www.colescountyartscouncil.org.

PAPER MAKING with Dennis Morris, Springfield paper artist.  These high quality paper sheets can be used in your fiber designing and will be used in the June and July workshops.

 Literary Arts

Memoir Writers Groups - These groups are open to everyone in the area interested in writing memoirs, short stories, poems, etc. During the year three Public Readings are held on announced Sunday Afternoons at the Charleston Carnegie Public Library. Members of the groups read their works. These groups are designed to help and encourage individuals develop writing skills, generate creative ideas, and associate with those of similar interests. You do not have to be an accomplished writer to belong to either group. You just need an interest in the written word. Free!

Past - Forward Memoir Writers - This group meets last Friday of the month at 1:00 p.m. at the Charleston Carnegie Public Library except Nov. and Dec when meetings are the third Friday due to holidays. Free! Contact Jane Messenger -  president@colescountyartscouncil.org

Musical Arts
